10.I - ES WAR EINMAL REDUKTION. WORK

The story of "Hensel and Gretel" transformed into another media. The results are shown on three screens. The non linear installation is another way of expressing the fairy tale. Originally constructed with 6 loops it tends to vary the length and story line. The first mov shows the way the fairy tale represents itself, projected into three antique frames. I will update the movie after the exhibition in the Medienkulturhaus on 18. October.

Thanks to /// Katharina Mayrhofer programming the loops in VVVV and /// Oliver Johnson for the Sounddesign.

First tests at the Medienkulturhaus Wels.

10.II - ES WAR EINMAL REDUKTION. THESIS

Living in a constant symbiosis, developing its idiosynchraisis due the choice of the form it is willing to present itself and crowd inspiring, the fairy tale challenge itself through the centuries. Fairy tales are old. Fairy tales are changeable. The apparent unique form bursts like a soap bubble. Quite fertile, the narration increases with wondrously manner to a plague. Heard once, it is hard to forget it. The tales present themselves in many different forms. The thesis is analyzing the area around fairy tales, in which they are constantly transforming into another forms of presentation. While the basic structure remains the same, the facial structure of the fairy tale gets mixed with the new dimensions which the focalization offers. Despite definite foundation walls, the fairy tale is frank to freedoms and dimensions of other forms of presentation and is trying to use the benefits of it. The way a teller is changing the code of the tale while he/she is performing, develops a dozen variations of one tale for a audience. While refering to the basic structure the fairy tale offers an open system of types and motives, which can be combined freely. The area around the fairy tales is also dealing with the point of view, the audiences evaluation and the continuos modifications of the context, which are appearing with every transformation. „A world who become more complex needs more complex fairy tales, which help to get a more complex world interpretation.“ (Heidtmann 207) Ignoring the waves of critizism, it is possible to discover a lot of potential beside the problems of fairy tale transformations.

”The fairy tale isn't only the golden cage,
which is glamourizing a cramped reality.
It is also the bird breaking out of this cage.“
Walther Bausinger 1987
